Capabilities of EADS shelter systems underscored in international medical magazine

October 23, 2008

Medical Corps International magazine is an international publication for military and public emergency medicine.

EADS’ modular mobile systems for medical care and other applications have been given a new focus in Medical Corps International (MCI), a magazine that covers military and civil medical services, international aid organizations, and relevant commercial companies and manufacturers around the world.

This latest article is based on an interview with Jens Bauer, Vice President & CEO of EADS Mobile Systems, who outlines the origins of EADS’ shelter programs and discusses products such as the TransHospital™ medical care unit, the Tentainer™ hybrid shelter and TransProtec™ armored carrier.

During his interview with MCI, Bauer emphasized the importance of adaptable mobile structures in the face of new kinds of threats. Conventional military conflicts have been replaced by asymmetric warfare and terrorism, which require a new generation of rugged, self-sufficient shelters, such as the TransHospital unit, he said.

In addition, Bauer discussed the flexibility of EADS’ diverse line of modular mobile systems, which offers different solutions based on the customer’s needs. Each individual system is highly customizable to meet mission-specific requirements, based on climatic, logistic and organizational factors.

The Tentainer system – which is featured prominently in the MCI article – is a new hybrid shelter that combines the advantages of a light and quickly deployable tent with the robust substructure of a container. Tentainer is part of EADS North America’s TransHospital® Future Combat Support Hospital, which is being evaluated by the U.S. Army for its Future Medical Shelter System requirement.
