Feature storyISO Tentainer™ on display for the first time in the United StatesNovember 17, 2009 The ISO Tentainer™ drew positive feedback during its U.S. debut at the bi-annual meeting of the Defense Department’s Joint Committee on Tactical Shelters (JOCOTAS), held November 2-4 in Panama City Beach, Florida. The ISO Tentainer was on display throughout the important JOCOTAS industry event, giving attendees an opportunity to see first-hand this increased-size, follow-on product of Tentainer™ – which was developed to meet U.S. medical, emergency response and disaster relief mission requirements. The new ISO Tentainer hybrid shelter uses the lower portion of a lightweight 20-ft. ISO container with an inflatable tent upper section – providing a combination of mobility and durability for demanding operations. As a highly mobile system designed for rapid set-up, it can be pre-integrated with medical care equipment, communications systems and other hardware. In addition, the ISO Tentainer’s rigid base allows this shelter to be easily leveled – ensuring successful deployment in all settings. A key difference between this new shelter and the Tentainer is size. The ISO Tentainer is provided as a 20 ft. long, 8 ft. wide, 4 ft. high box – allowing for two units to be stacked into a standard 20-ft. shipping container. By comparison, Tentainer measures 8.9 ft. X 5.9 ft. X 4.9 ft. in its stowed configuration for deployment. Designs also are ready for a 10-ft.-long version of the ISO Tentainer. Four shelters of this size will fit into one 20-ft. shipping container, while two can be combined for transport with a 10-ft. BiCon container – which is utilized by the U.S. Army – with extra space to carry support equipment. On the JOCOTAS meeting's final day, the ISO Tentainer was broken down into its 20 ft. X 8 ft. X 4 ft. shipping mode in a span of 15-20 minutes – underscoring the unit’s mobility, flexibility and efficiency, as members of the governmental and industrial sectors watched the rapid process from start to finish. Also on display at this event in Florida was the EADS 3:1 expandable ISO shelter, which was configured as an operating room. This particular module – a prototype built specifically for the U.S. Army – was integrated with an electrical system, medical light fixtures and an oxygen distribution system. |
